The LGBTQ asylum seekers deserve to be safe
In 72 nations as of 2020, being a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender person is still a crime with 32 of these countries being in Africa. LGBTQ+ persons experience genuine persecution from the state and their communities, ranging from assault to the death penalty. As a result, many people are compelled to leave their family and homes in order to find safety from prejudice and hatred.
All refugees and anyone seeking asylum, in our opinion, should be treated with respect and compassion. We think that similar kindness ought to be extended to LGBTQ+ individuals who are looking for sanctuary. The particular needs of LGBTQ+ individuals must be considered in all efforts to assist asylum seekers and refugees.
More than 1500+ LGBTQ persons have been helped
We deliver our Mental Health Support Service, using professionals who are experienced in caring for minority groups/persons.
No one will receive any information that could identify anyone using this service, as we appreciate patient privacy is paramount, and we provide the option of anonymity.

We advocate for the rights of all refugees, asylum-seekers, and immigrants
SEMA is still in operation as a non-profit community-based organization dedicated to advancing the rights of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers in South Africa. Additionally, we concentrate on assisting LGBTIQ refugees and immigrants because we are aware of their vulnerability to persecution and the widespread criminalization of their existence in Africa. At a time when you might feel alone and alienated, online social gatherings and organizations are a fantastic way to build community and connection. We provide social settings where you can meet others and share your talents, such as community groups led and directed by musicians, poets, DJs, and artists.
