We partner with organisations outside South Africa facing the same challenges
Due to discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation, more than 2 million LGBT individuals in Uganda do not have access to high-quality health services, including HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support. It is just unfair to deny LGBTQ Ugandans access to health care, especially HIV prevention and treatment. The situation is so bad that some of these HIV-positive people medicate themselves with battery acid because they have heard that it kills the infection out of desperation.
SEMA is partnering with health providers to establish a gay-friendly clinic in Kampala that will provide the following free quality health services to more than 500 LGBT people who do not access services due to homophobia based on their sexual orientation:
Free Condoms/Lubricant Supply
The program aims to improve the LGBTQ community’s access to condoms and lubricants in convenient locations. Condoms and lubricants are available in both safe areas and locations where LGBTQ people can feel at ease and unjudged.
PREP-PEP Awareness & Supply
Despite having a high level of interest in employing the treatment, homosexual and bisexual men still have very little knowledge of PrEP. In the LGBTQ community, this campaign raises knowledge of PEP and PrEP use as well as experiences with it.
Physical/Emotional Support
The program aims to advance the start of therapy for MSM patients who are HIV positive. The LGBTQ community needs ART decentralization in order to improve access to treatment.
